Du merkst wenn du zurück in Deutschland bist wenn…

You separate your trash into more than five different bins.

Your front door has a sign with your family name made from salt dough.
You carry a „4You“ backpack.
You eat a cold dinner at 6pm.
You call your cell phone „handy“ and a projector „beamer“.
You have no problems with nude beaches and saunas.
You have asked your Asian-American friend, „No, but where are you *really* from?“
You have gotten splinters from environmentally friendly toiled paper.
You call an afternoon stroll „Nordic Walking“.
You are shocked when you have to pay for dental care.
You own a pair of jeans in a color other than blue.
People start talking about Hitler and Hofbräuhaus when you tell them where you’re from.
Tenth grade was all about dancing lessons.
You work 40 hour weeks and have 6 weeks of vacation a year, but complain about hard times.
Your childhood diet consisted of Alete and Zwieback. Your college diet consisted of Miracoli and Döner.
You were educated about sex by Dr. Sommer.
You yell at people for jaywalking.
You grew up watching „Löwenzahn“ and „Die Sendung mit der Maus“. And Baywatch.
You think college tuition is an outrage.
You routinely go 100mph on the highway and tailgate heavily.
On your last day of high school you made your teachers sing Karaoke and jump through hoops.
You wear brown leather shoes.
Your first audio tape was Benjamin Blümchen and Bibi Blocksberg.
You have ended an English sentence with „…, or?“.
You can tell at least one Manta joke.
You’re a college student in your 11th year.
Your first sexual experience was on Sat1, Saturday night at 11pm.
You spent hours in school learning to pronounce „th“.
You expect chocolate in your shoes on December 6th.
You complain that in other countries everything is dirty.

Back home… September 7th. 2008

OK, here I’m back in „Good Old Germany“, what a strange feeling it is. I haven’t been writing much lately, just because I was so busy. I don’t want to tell you about every single thing since if have come back, but here are a few things.

I moved into my apartment and I have been living here for about 2 weeks. I think it is pretty big for someone who lives alone but I like it.  I life right in the downtown area of Leipzig and I’m surrounded by every thing I need Included the school were I’m going too. It is a Vocal school upper secondary level. And I’ve got 9 month to get my A- Level. So I’m pretty busy with that. But I like it, I mean it is very strange to be back in school after such a long time.

Today I had my first basketball game. It was a scrimmage but under real conditions. It felt so good to hold the ball after over 2 years and to be to getter with my teammates, I have misted that so much! Especially, everyone is speaking English, because of our foreign teammates. Though I felt very comfortable! J  The game was OK due to the fact that I have done practice just for a week. I’m still not sure if I’ll play in the second or in the third women team. I have to decide in the next few weeks.

But I have to admit that I still have problems with getting back to “normal” I would have never thought that it will be such a hard change. I miss “my” family so much and all my friends which are still in the USA or at their home somewhere else in the world J

All right, that’s it for now.

Take care

Sandra

Here are some pictures of my first game.

Good Bye my second home! July 31. 2008

I don´t know what to say…I´m so sad right now. Today was the big day, I had to say „Good Bye“ and I would have never thought that it would be that hard! Karen and JC took me out for dinner on Wednesday and they sad things to me and showed emotions, which I would have never expected. I started crying yesterday night and i just can´t stop…ok, haven´t been crying now for 2 hours- well done! I´m just so weak it is such a strange feeling to know I won´t see them for a long time. I´m going to miss them so much!

But the most touching fact was, that I really know that they care about me and they always will! And just to know that makes me very happy. I have found a second home and the best family i could have wished for!!!! But enough now, or I´ll start crying again.

JC took me, my grandma and my 5 suitcases to the rental car location. And now I`m in Wilmington. Wilmington is still in NC and is a little town very close to the Atlantic, about 20 min. away. We made it without getting lost in about 3,5 hours. On friday we will go to the Ocean.

I´m really not in the mood for this here right now, that should be enough information for so far.

Here are some pic´s from Wilmington

„It is never a „Good Bye“. It´s a „See You Later“.
